A vintage Citroën truck, branded inside and out for Maison Perrier Atelier, set up as a street-side pop-up during New York Fashion Week with custom caps on offer. It moved fast: 260 custom Le French Caps were distributed, and the activation sold out in just five hours.

Promobile Marketing handled the truck build, production, design support and location sourcing for the activation. Our team has spent over a decade building mobile brand activations and vehicle pop-ups for brands that want to meet people on the street instead of waiting for them to come in. If you have a launch or a cultural moment coming up, contact our team and we’ll talk through the options.

This article covers the brief, how the truck and the cap experience were put together, the results and what other brands can take from them.

The Brief: French Heritage on a Fashion Week Street

Maison Perrier Atelier wanted a presence at New York Fashion Week that mixed fashion with the brand’s French heritage. The format was a stylish street-side pop-up. The goals were brand awareness and getting 300 custom Le French Caps into people’s hands through an exclusive, high-visibility consumer experience.

Fashion Week fills the city with people who notice what others are wearing, and every brand in town is competing for their attention. A booth or a banner gets lost in that. A product people can wear, handed out from something that stands out on the street, has a better shot.

The Truck: A Vintage Citroën Turned Into a Mobile Pop-Up

A vintage Citroën truck brings the French reference before anyone reads a logo. We transformed it inside and out into a fully branded Maison Perrier Atelier pop-up, which made the vehicle itself the eye-catching part of the experience.

The mobile format also meant the pop-up could go where the people were, instead of waiting for them at a fixed address. Our guide to choosing the right vehicle for a mobile pop-up goes deeper on how to match a vehicle to the job, and a vintage truck is a strong choice when the brand story is about where the brand comes from.

The Le French Cap Experience

The caps gave people a reason to engage. We created an interactive custom cap experience around exclusive Le French Cap designs, with on-site styling for the Fashion Week attendees who stopped by.

That matters more than it sounds. A cap handed over in a bag is easy to forget. A cap you’re styled in at a Fashion Week pop-up is something you’re more likely to wear out the door, and a cap that gets worn keeps the brand in view after the visit. Fashion labels have used mobile showrooms the same way for years, and a wearable item is about the most direct form of branded swag there is.

How the Activation Came Together

The activation came down to four jobs, done in this order:

  1. Start with the vehicle:  A vintage Citroën truck set up the French reference before anyone read the branding.
  2. Brand it inside and out:  The truck was transformed into a fully branded Maison Perrier Atelier space and became an eye-catching mobile experience.
  3. Build the cap experience: Exclusive Le French Cap designs and on-site styling gave attendees a reason to stop and take part.
  4. Secure the spot: We handled location sourcing and secured a high-foot-traffic location in New York City to get the most visibility and consumer engagement.

Results

The brief set a distribution goal, and the campaign recap tracked how many caps went out and how quickly the activation sold out. Here’s how those numbers compare:

Five hours is a short window. Exclusive designs, on-site styling and a busy location gave people reasons to stop, and the caps moved quickly.

What Other Brands Can Take From This Activation

- Let the vehicle do some of the talking. A vintage Citroën says “French” faster than any tagline could, and on a street full of fashion people, the truck itself is the first thing they see.

- Offer something people will wear. A cap ends up on someone’s head and on the subway home. That's a reach a flyer never gets.

- Put the location on the same level as the creative. A great truck in the wrong spot is a parked truck. Sourcing a high-foot-traffic location in New York City was part of the plan from the start, not an afterthought. We saw the same in Hone Health’s Funeral for Midlife, where Grand Central Terminal did a lot of the work.

Planning a Mobile Pop-Up for Your Brand?

A street pop-up only works if the vehicle, the product experience and the location are planned together. That’s the part we handle, from the vehicle build and design support to production and finding the spot. If you have a launch, a Fashion Week moment or another event on the calendar, you can request a quote or browse our work to see what we’ve built for other brands.
